Massage Therapy and Digestion

This 2 hour webinar, presented by Sheila Bergman, will discuss the Digestive System from a massage therapy perspective. The anatomy and pathophysiology will be reviewed. The focus of this webinar will be the ability of the massage therapist to work with the anatomy of the digestive system to assist a client who has difficulty with digestion, while considering any contraindications to treatment.

Join Tori Webber for this First Aid and CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) course that provides the skills needed to recognize and respond to cardiovascular emergencies and choking for Adults, Children and Infants (Level C). Includes training in the use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) as well as basic first-aid which covers wound care management, burns, fractures, heart attach, seizures, strokes and diabetes. We will review the emergency response system and the responsibilites of being a first aider.

Please note that lunch break will be a half hour.

Preparing for Regulation: Professional Communication

Approximately 80% of all complaints the MTAM receives from the public are to some degree a result of poor therapist communication. This workshop will provide an understanding of the importance and need for professional therapist communicaiton. Topics will include how body language and tone of voice play a critical role in communication. We will discuss how to achieve professional written communication and why it is necessary. Examples will be given to illustrate the dos and don’ts of professional communication with clients and other health care professionals in various formats including texts, emails, letters and reports.

Movement Specialist

There is no ‘one size fits all’ to human movement, rather there are many ‘human shapes’ that can accomplish the same movement goals.

More important than stereotypic standards and measurements to ‘ideal’ movements we can provide a more COMPLETE strategy to movement screening by looking at the complete person, their environment and their unique ‘parts’.

This course will provide attendees with an integrated strategy for movement assessment, correction and programming. This course addresses multiple considerations that affect our ability t move including the psychological, neurological, motor, connective tissue systems, environment and personalities of our clients. Movement efficiency and variability will be emphasized as key components to assessment and rehabilitation goals.

Included in the registration fee, each participant will receive a foam roller, mobility ball, roll of kinesiology tape, scissors, compression band floss, and therapeutic exercise band.

Vodder Manual Lymphatic Drainage Level 1 Practical

Join Denise Drisdelle BA, RMT for this 4-day, July 9th - 12th, classroom course that covers the original Dr. Vodder Manual Lymph Drainage (MLD) strokes and their application to each body part, including the neck, face, arms, legs, nape, back, buttocks, chest and abdomen. These techniques can be applied to many conditions, for example, a sprained ankle on day 1 of injury, skin conditions like acne, sinus congestion, digestive issues, acute injuries, MVAs and concussions. 

Through careful, systematic training of your hands, and thorough training in the scientific basis of lymphology, you will gain all the skills necessary to excel in this work. Learning outcomes for the theoretical portion covers the anatomy and physiology of the lymphatic system, effects of MLD, connective tissues, lymphedema, edema and contraindications. 

**Prior to taking this course you will need to complete the Level One Theory. Register for the theory portion directly though the Vodder School. Massage Therapy & the Immune System - 2 core credits

Join Sheila Bergman for this science-based discussion on Massage Therapy & the Immune System. This workshop was developed to educate massage therapists on best practices while working with clients. It is designed to be a review of how the immune system of the body works, and how best to assist in its function.

By taking this workshop, you should develop an understanding of what Innate and Specific Immunity are and how they work in protecting the body from disease. You will develop an understanding of cells involved and how they perform their function and the effect of stress on the immune system.
