Massage Therapy Association of Manitoba

The Massage Therapy Association of Manitoba is an incorporated not-for-profit association of professional massage therapists established as an association in 1973 within the requirements of the Corporations Act of the Province of Manitoba.

The MTAM  represents over 85% of the professional Massage Therapists who work in the province of Manitoba. It conducts its business from professionally staffed offices in Winnipeg and its geographic area of responsibility is within the boundaries of the province.

Highest Calibre Massage Therapists in the Province

The massage therapy industry is currently not regulated by the Manitoba government. For over 40 years, the MTAM has provided the massage therapy profession with a self-regulating body to ensure the highest standards of massage training and practice, and provide protection for the public.

The MTAM has been working over the last several years in achieving provincial regulation.

Currently, in addition to acting as a regulator and competency educator for Registered Massage Therapists in Manitoba, our purpose is to promote the benefits of massage, provide the public with access to registered massage therapists, and to support professional massage therapists throughout Manitoba.

In Good Hands

In addition to the highest level of education and competency in the Province, all MTAM members must submit a Criminal Record Check (CRC) with the Vulnerable Sector search.

Every member of our Association is bound to each other by a Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice and are subject to discipline if any breach shall occur which threatens public harm. We take our competency and education and standards of practice very seriously.

You know you are in good hands with our members: view our list and find a Registered Massage Therapist near you.

Our Members want every client of massage therapy to receive the full, safe benefits of massage in the hands of someone who has reached the highest levels of competency and care the profession allows.

Professionalism

In addition to maintaining their registration annually, Manitoba's Registered Massage Therapists:

  • Meet or exceed defined competency and education

  • Maintain standards of practice and take part in on-going improvement

  • Have submited a Criminal Record Check (CRC) with the Vulnerable Sector search

  • Ensure privacy and confidentiality of their client’s personal health information and records

  • Adhere to a code Code of Ethics and Mission Statement (Click here)
