Choosing a Registered Massage Therapist

When considering which RMT you will be choosing as your Massage Therapist do check out the following:

  • Does the Massage Therapist have a two year diploma from a recognized Massage Therapy School (Three schools in Manitoba are registered with the Province of Manitoba - Advanced Education, and are approved to issue diplomas in Massage Therapy within the province - to qualified graduates who have completed a two year course of studies)
  • Is the Massage Therapist a member in 'Good Standing' with the Massage Therapy Association of Manitoba ?(MTAM members are required to committ to compulsory 'Continuing Education' and must adhere to a 'Code of Ethics' within their practice.)
  • Look for the 'RMT' logo!
  • If the therapist works in the City of Thompson does he/she have a license from their municipality to practice Massage Therapy?
  • Does the Massage Therapist have 'Professional & General Liability Insurance'?
  • Is the Massage Therapist eligible to provide services that will be reimbursed by 'Third Party Insurers?
  • Will the Massage Therapist provide professional references? (Family Doctors; Chiropractors; Physiotherapists; Atletic Therapists; Clients or other Massage Therapists)
  • If your medical condition requires specialized treatment - make certain the Massage Therapist is trained to treat that condition. (Many Massage Therapists have taken post-graduate studies in specialties and will confirm this with you!)
  • Discuss your Massage Therapist search with friends and colleagues who may be able to recommend a professional RMT who they have found to meet their needs.
  • Beware of unqualified individuals who may claim to be Massage Therapists and are not!
