As a health-care profession, Massage Therapy is based upon the Health Sciences. Graduates from a Massage Therapy school complete studies in: Anatomy, Physiology, Pathology, Kinesiology, Massage Theory and techniques, and assessment and treatment of various conditions. This intensive training ensures the confidence of the public and other health-care professionals in the abilities of MTAM members. Secondary Education pre-requisites are required for entry to the study of Massage Therapy.
Without adequate training, errors may occur in choice of treatment method, resulting in injury, pain, bruising or inflammation; or initial conditions may be exacerbated, possibly becoming chronic or disabling due to unrecognized contraindications.
Manitoba is privileged to have three registered
schools of Massage Therapy who provide
comprehensive two year curriculums in the
profession. The two years of study (Minimum of
2200 hours of instruction) is a registered
program with the Province of Manitoba - Advanced
Education. The MTAM endorses and supports the two year program as a minimum standard for the entry to practice the profession of Massage Therapy in Manitoba.
The MTAM monitors the curriculum of each
College/School and their respective
'Examination' process to ensure graduates are
able to meet the MTAM requirements for
membership application.
Individuals interested in the profession of
Massage Therapy are encouraged to contact the schools directly concerning their entrance
requirements and courses of study. The
